@Vox Explain why nobody of today would suspect these mansions of being McMansions?

You got any ideas on why Victorian, a dialect of English, is also a thematic horror element?

A big reason these homes started getting rundown was because a lot of them were built close to, or just outside of, city centers. As cities grew and started developing around the old mansions, the wealthier people wanted to move further away. A lot of the old rich families lost their wealth also, and couldn't maintain such giant houses...either way, they were sold and left behind.

A great number of them were divided up and turned into low income apartments and boarding houses. That unfortunately usually leads to overcrowding, crime, vermin, etc. And the lack of "pride in ownership" meant, that since those people didn't own the house, they were less likely to care about it's upkeep. The sad thing is, no one seemed to give a damn about historical preservation around the middle of the last century and so many beautiful mansions were demolished to make way for ugly modern eyesores.

A good example is Downtown Los Angeles. The Bunker Hill neighborhood was full of giant *GORGEOUS* Victorian mansions, some of the most beautiful homes ever built! As the city grew, the rich left. All of the mansions were demolished by the 50's and most of the downtown area was completely leveled and rebuilt in the 60's.

*If you have time look up some of LA's old buildings (the Bunker Hill mansions, the old vine-covered Courthouse, the neighboring Hall of Records, the old Le Grande Santa Fe train station... to name a few).*

It's a gross inaccurate generalization to say that the entire Victorian architecture type imparts dread and death. There are many restrained beautiful historic buildings all over the US of the Victorian style, wonderfully preserved. Typical Vox, "throw the baby out with the bathwater" babble.

I never associated victorian houses with the death or anything else gruesome... That’s why when I grew up and could afford my dream house I bought an victorian house in New Jersey with five fireplaces. Although it was very stressful renovating the outside because, they’re were so many rules and regulations and specific do’s and don’ts. All the way down to your choice of color, it had to be historically correct.

Besides, the obvious ghost in the window I only saw two others. Whoever saw all four of them, my hats off to you!

The MODERNIST architects killed architecture itself. Any building aged a hundred or more years that still stands today still amazes people. Old modern buildings are only best for graffiti and human manure. Modern buildings only look good when new.
