Its funny you chose the years 1985-2017. Its not like the NCAA tournament began that year, no that started in 1939. So perhaps you were just selecting those years because that's when the shot clock was introduced. Ok lets roll with that. Now why are we comparing college athletes to professionals? less than 2 percent of college athletes will ever go pro, so are we really going to compare the caliber of teams that don't have a signal pro prospect on there to have the same ability to make play offs as professional teams? that's stupid. lets take NCAA baseball, and to be fair we will start back at its championships inception, in 1947. Now since that time, 81 teams showed up and never won. However, 118 teams never showed up period. Thats out of 299 NCAA Baseball teams, in over 70 years 40% of them have never even shown up. Wow those odds are starting to look very similar to your drought odds as well, I just expanded mine twice as long. But wait, out of all the teams that have shown up and never won, or never shown up 66% are losers. SO yeah why not start making accurate comparisons, college players are and never should be compared to the dynamic of pro teams and their capability to turn things around. I mean, colleges don't have money to pick the best players, or even get to keep most players more than a few years, they are constantly having to turn over a new team, the comparison to pro teams is ridiculous. and what are we just supposed to sit here and take it? I don't think so. Oh and have fun comparing all the different college teams, because guess what their numbers are high too for drought years and everyone gets in at the college level. So suck it... but other than that keep pumping the videos, they are awesome.

In theory I agree with most of what you're saying, but tell all of this to Gonzaga. This tournament basically created thier program because it gives one thing that small programs like Gonzaga or Butler gain that they cannot have ever gotten otherwise,... publicity.

i don't understand how re-seeding make things easier for lower ranked teams? if they beat a top team, then they already have an easier schedule without it, no? or does re-seeding just help SOME of the lower ranked teams? i'm not one to vote for re-seeding at this point. there is enough controversy over seeds without doing more subjective stuff in the middle of a tournament or do i have this wrong?

Lol this video is bs even at the time it was released. And that sweet 16 graphic is a joke, of course seeds that beat a 1 or 2 seed in the Round of 32 will have a lower seed to face in the next round, they have to. The one point he does make correctly is that the 3 - 14 and 6 - 11 lines are the place to be for trendy upset picks because there is an upper limit on how good the team you are playing can be for the first two rounds of the tournament. A little bubble of mediocrity that can spur on an unlikely Elite Eight or Final Four run.

The fact of the matter is that any tournament is skewed towards the top teams, see how many times the Patriots have been in the Super Bowl or the top 2 seeds in the NBA make the Finals. This tournament does the best job on not just manufacturing hope, but delivering it in the form of single elimination upsets and Final Four to championship runs. You say "sorry Valparaiso, this tournament isn't for you" - but I'm sure you could have said that to their Conference league mate Butler back in the early 2000s. And you could have said that to their current conference league mate Wichita State around that time as well. If a program can become dominate within their conference they have a chance at making some noise in the tournament, and if they strike gold coaching wise they have a chance of going toe to toe with every team in America. It's not the most likely thing to happen, but it is a real possibility, and that is the beauty and the magic of the March Madness tournament.

The 8 and 9 seeds have a higher winning percentage in the sweet 16 because to get there they would have already played and beaten a 1 seed. It's a much more self selecting group that has already played its toughest game.

The only people who really win are the execs who make billions of dollars off of slave labor. As for the tournament, the structure is irrelevant. If you have one champion, then every other team isn't that champion. Period. The analysis about which seeds have a harder path rests on the implicit acknowledgement that teams with higher seeds are usually better than teams with lower seeds. While it's unstated, that reality completely undermines the rest of the video's argument. This was a pointless video.

Do you mean that they never won a playoff series as the Nationals? Because the Expos, for which they are the same franchise, won the NLDS in 1981
