They ruined GAME OF THRONES. "oh the humanity... ". I was so embarrassed watching the finale because I was in a room full of people I'd converted to GoT and I felt SO bad that I got them into this cringey, awful, just awfully conceived and written ending... what started so promising and so awesome in seasons 1-5 just crumbled into a horrific mess of amateurish plotting and dialogue in the end. I thought about slinking out of the room as everyone sat there angrily with confused, irritated and annoyed looks on their faces but I stuck it out and when it was done - we all had that wounded "what the fuck happened?" conversation - kind of like the one we had after THE PHANTOM MENACE back in 99 and wondered how something so good could go so terribly wrong.

You're awesome Linda, your sass perfectly sums up my feelings towards this garbage fire of a show

Pretty much the worst season in existence.

Yup. Id say the show definitely started to fall apart during season 2. They never handled dany right. They never understood dany. Because they never understood the books. They never even understood their own show. They have always been hack frauds

Though I quite liked the ending, I understand what you're saying. It really felt a bit empty. We should have at least seen a bit more of the world. And the fact Jon was a Targaryen should have been given more weight, the fact that Aegon Targaryen finished what the first Aegon Targaryen started. I don't think Bran manipulated the events, but he realized, when Jon decided to tell Sansa and Arya he was Aegon, that things could only one in one way. Or maybe he realized he was the best king Westeros could have. It's ambivalent and should have been more explored.

I absolutely loved season one and two but there was nothing about season 8 that I liked and felt completely let down by the final episode

They skip many plots of the books they didn't past it.

That may be the best analogy I've heard...."GOT was kind of like the Hindenburgh...it just sort of blew up in mid air".

The show ended terribly - there’s no hiding how terrible D&D are as writers - producers. I feel like they intentionally destroyed or tried to diminish the brand GRRM created. Your knowledge & attention to detail is always appreciated, I’m so glad that you guys both Elio & Linda are eternally connected to George & his masterpieces - I pray we will all get to know his complete story sticking it up the “Ass” of all that went wrong with the TV Show. I hope to hear more from you on many other projects over time

yeah the landing did not stick at all but the ending montage was a visual/aural treat. I really liked the montage of seeing each character's silhouette and their weapons/accessories/outfits.

Maybe Arya ends up destroying kingslanding by her pursuit of killing cersi which triggers the wildfire in Kings landing.

You and your husband *need* to help GRRM finish those books now. I think you're both the only ones who could, and whom he would trust, to do so.

The death scene of Dany, with Drogon trying to nudge her, and then taking her away, was probably the scene that I loved the most in the entire season.
But then again, I love every scene that shows that dragons are much more than nuclear weapons, so...

"Sansa looks ominous"? It's sad that even now after the endgame there are anti comments directed at her. She inspired Jon to take back their home, she's been a great Lady of Winterfell according to her people, she supported Bran and Jon multiple times as rulers of Winterfell without trying to take that throne even though the lords themselves offered it to her. She tried to protect her pack the whole way through. She supports her family and people. Why is she dark and ominous?

What should have been the final scene:

As Jon Snow trots along with the beginnings of his stupid, smug smirk, the camera pulls out and up and flies over the Haunted Forest , away over the Frostfangs, to the Lands of Always Winter and the citadel we glimpsed in season 4.
There sits a truly awesome looking Other, on a frozen throne, who speaks in a voice like shattering ice.
The subtitles read "So, my lieutenant has failed... I suppose I must do this myself".
The camera pulls back to show thousands of Others silently mounting their giant ice spiders ....
                                              Roll credits.

Dany's liberation line made her sound like a neocon politician. So anachronistic and out of place.

Ironic that D&D would chose "stories" as the thing that binds us together. If they were better at writing stories, we would not have lost the internal consistency that made GOT the incredible phenomenon that it was. I felt such an incredible sense of loss watching the characters literally burn at the hands of these two. The actors, music, cinematography, effects and costumes were however...absolutely stunning! heartbreaking. Yes..Yes.. Linda, you hit the nail on the head! As it neared the end... it got small.

Before the show I'm sad to say I'd never heard of these books, but since then I've read all the books multiple times, read "The World of Ice & Fire" and the Dunk & Egg novellas and "Fire & Blood" and enjoyed them all so much. I even have a Longclaw replica. And I've enjoyed hashing out theories and speculating on characters and themes with all of my fellow fans.

Same with me, I read the books before I watched the show, but that's only after the show became popular (season 3). So, I do owe the show that at least. And I also fell in love with the actors and love that now we can see them in other things. That being said, I will erase Season 7 and 8 from my memory hahaha

I am a bit confused over the dismissal of the logistics of elective monarchy. It has its faults, huge faults, but it has worked in history and there are many examples. Limited to just the high lords it is similar to the Holy Roman Empire, or with all nobles its more Polish Lithuanian commonwealth to name just two.
If Cardinals can gather to elect the Pope, or the Electors of the Holy Roman Empire, or the members of the Thing in Saxon history, or the very early caliphate ext, then the lords of Westeros can.

                                                                              • OneOnOne1162

I pretty much agree with the speculations on the end. I think, somewhat like George said, they had the broad strokes there but lost a lot of the complexity. Dany will go crazy and be killed, Jon will do the killing and go beyond the wall, Arya will sail to the west of Westeros, Brienne will become lord commander, etc. But none of it will happen in the way it's presented here. There'll be more to it. Like it might be clear that Jon's exile is in part a self-exile, no longer wanting to take part in any politics or power plays or wars. Arya's path of vengeance will have permanent consequences for her, leaving her scarred. I do think it's possible an elective monarchy will happen, but I think if so it'll be in the form of a great council. They've used those to settle succession disputes before and I think it's possible that it will transition to the function of electing new monarchs on the death of the old. The biggest problem I have with the end is probably the idea of the North seceding. I find it very hard to buy that happening. Mostly because I think that would, from a realistic standpoint, inevitably cause a domino effect. Like I would imagine Dorne would immediately ask for the same thing. And George is a stickler for political realism in a way that D&D never were. So yeah... find it hard to believe that'll happen in the books. But you never know, maybe he'll find a way to do it realistically.

Dragons have never been shown to be intelligent enough to understand the sort of deductions it would take for him to do that, imo.

I really hate when people say “oh if you did not see that coming...” well, not like this, give me other facts than killing her enemies, because that’s what Westerosi leaders/characters have been doing, being brutal with their enemies has been the theme with all characters, like R Baratheon accepting the killing of the Targs even the children, Arya killing the Freys, Meryn Trant etc. Sansa enjoying watching Ramsey being eaten alive... Why expect something different from Daenerys? Now she kills civilians... but why? Oh yes she was mad all along because her father was mad... I just feel sad that all the intricacy of the story, was gone... Like with Bran I’m totally baffled, he did absolutely nothing, his “training” was only to be the back up disk for history? Why make a big deal of him being a powerful green seer that could warg people, visit the past, and that could even change something (Hodor) or be heard (Ned) during a vision? I’m not even mad anymore, just disappointed. Thank you Linda, for your insight as always. I’m done with the Starks really, not just Sansa, I was pro-Starks before, but now I’m just drained by them. I must disagree 😅 about the winged-Daenerys scene, I personally loved it, I will treasure that visual! and also maybe the scenes were Drogon is nudging Dany’s body and Jon is with Ghost. I’m soft like that 😬😂
