So even before the NFL came along, Boston and Pittsburgh are already at odds with each other.

Today many of the players come from an international scope, from places up and down the two American continents and also there is a group of players in the last 25 years who have made it with their respective US based clubs that were from Japan (which has apparently has a pretty fierce and popular Major League organization of its own, owing more indirectly to the legacy of barnstorming baseball players like Babe Ruth in the 20s and 30s or later who visited and promoted the sport among Japanese fans rather than the kind of campy movie comedy of Tom Seleck in Mr Baseball, in the late 1980s). The franchises in the "U.S" Major Leagues include the Toronto Blue Jays which is a club located in the biggest city in Canada (and in their 40+ year history they've won the trophy twice, 1992 and 1993) [I am referring to 2018 Baseball, Montreal in the province of Quebec used to have a National League club called the Expos, but they have since moved to the District of Columbia and are called the Washington Nationals].
The origin of the championship series "The World Series" actually comes from a newspaper which sponsored the series at its inception, so, the title of the series originally was The World's Series rather than The World Series. For clarity, the newspaper "The World" sponsored the first championship series (there where other series before that) so therefore it as called The World's Series", however by virtue of how English speakers speak The World's Series got hurried and Shortened to The World Series erasing the 's behind the word World.
                          Hopefully that helps.

In other news, a new candidate for Best World Series Ever is needed as the widely celebrated '91 Series has been found to have never actually begun.

Hmm... in a seven game series, the winning team has only won 57% of the time, a failing grade in school. What if the winner had to win at least 75% of games, with a minimum of 7 games played?

The Pirates may have blown a 3-1 lead in the 1903 World Series, but they made up for it in 1979 after coming back from an 0-3 deficit to win that year’s World Series against the Orioles.

Technically, yes, but it doesn't carry the same weight as any of the other chokes because it was best-of-nine, not best-of-seven.

Interesting fact they tried best 9 several times (last in 1921) None of them went to 9 games. The other series go 8 (other then 1912 mentioned already in comments) Reds beating White Soxes in 1919 (yes black sox scandal series) and said 1921 series where Giants beat Yankees.

On top of that, game went extra innings and had an extra inning comeback. Oh, and Fred Snodgrass dropped a routine fly ball and it cost them dearly, led to them blowing the lead. Snodgrass played for the Giants. The Red Sox benefitted from the error. I know, weird (if you still remember the Curse, anyway). Baseball's goats have always been tragically immortalized.
