All current baseball announcers this is how you broadcast a baseball game...Vin Scully is still one of the all-time best sports announcers...No nonsense yet keeps the listener engaged and part of the game. With his style of announcing you don't even need tv to see what's going on.

When the Mets brought Mookie up in 1980 he was the closest thing they had to a star (other than Jeff Reardon but no one knew).  He was good, and fast, but just a high-level journeyman.  That he played such a critical role in this win made him a Mets legend.

I had a season ticket to the Mets in 1981-82, and went to 72 games in 1980, the last three against the Pirates where I was three of the 5,000+ combined attendance.  Fast-forward to 1985, I go on a Sunday in the summer, 52,000 in the stands, Giants go up 2-0 in the first, Mets get three in the sixth without breaking a sweat, cruising to a 3-2 win.  I move to Philadelphia in 1986 and am on the way out of Garden State Park when THIS comes on the monitor.  Quite "amazing."

didn't Calvin Schiraldi have a two strike count on both Kevin Mitchell and Ray Knight? And he couldn't get them out. Twice he had to get one pitch to give the Sox the Series and couldn't do it but nobody's mad at him.

The irony is Mookie probably beats Buckner to the bag anyway.

To all Boston Fans: Even if Buckner makes the play (and do not forget the game is already tied ) Wilson had an even chance to make first base. Even if Wilson was called out (50 % chance maximum) the Mets still could have won this game .Don't forget Buckner had weak legs and his speed to first base would have delayed. Most likely a bang bang play with Mookie beating him out by at least a quarter of a stride.

Baseball had so much more feeling and heart back then rather than today. The players today make so much money, they really don't care if they win or lose.

Someone, I forget who, and the sports program, said the ball took a crazy bounce. Plainly, simply, it did not. It was a misplay by Buckner, case closed. The following evening, the Amazins garnered a World Series crown.

Mookie was flat out flying down the line. On the other hand even if Mookie beats Buckner to first, Knight still doesn't get any further than third if Buckner handles it cleanly.

Has mlb ever talked bout limiting batters to no. of fouls they can hit ? I know there is a challenge going on here between the pitcher and batter, but if the batter is limited to 3 fouls hit and on the 4th, the batter is out cause his count would b 3-2. I'm sure it would change the strategy of the game but with Mlb looking to speed up the game, this could help. Also, wonder if stats r kept on this matter per game, with all the other stats nowadays it wouldn't surprise me. Ur thoughts here ??
