  • This week we're looking at two weirdo monster movies newly out on Blu-Ray from Severin Films. Do Del Tenney and Bruno Mattei deliver the goods, or do these two pictures taste like turkey?

This week's book recommendation is completely self serving, but please check out Matt Godfrey's wonderful performance of EXPONENTIAL, either on Amazon (here: amzn.to/2NvtAen) or Audible (here: audible.com/pd/B07GC5S1DW/?source_code=AUDFPWS0223189MWT-BK-ACX0-124893&ref=acx_bty_BK_ACX0_124893_rh_us)

To get your own copy of THE HORROR OF PARTY BEACH, you can buy direct from Severin's website (severin-films.com/shop/hpb-bundle/) or cruise by amazon here: amzn.to/2ws5dYy

SHOCKING DARK is available here with their exclusive slipcover (severin-films.com/shop/shocking-dark-blu-ray-slipcover/) and here on Amazon: amzn.to/2BZADus

I have a soft spot for Mutant, a 1984 flick with Wings Hauser, with uncredited direction from Mark Rosman.

Well, they don’t call you my pusherman for nothing! I’ve been wanting to see Party Beach for years and have been meaning to get to Shocking Dark since I heard Severin was putting it out. Now I just might bite the bullet and get both! Thanks for making these videos, Adam, it’s always a pleasure!

I'd stake my reputation on Del Tenney any day. Shocking Dark is going to be the one I'm unsure if you'll dig, but it's certainly an experience.

I’ve been watching your vids for a while and always enjoy finding something new from you! I just watched summer of ‘84 and was wondering if you’d seen it yet?

Adam! I am burning through EXPONENTIAL ...I like it a lot so far. Poor Felix the mouse =( I Got the Audible verison, ordering the paperback tonight, so i can get you to sign it =) As you are clearly a monster fan with horror, you can understand my pain of trying to find horror BOOKS that revolve around actual MONTERS. It's always ghosts, serial killers, etc etc...but rarely monsters.

My favorite films (horror) are The Thing (1984), Leviathan (1989), Phantoms (1998), American Werewolf in London, The Howling and many more, but you get the point...all monsters =0) ...well your writing seems to tell me that you love MONSTERS TOO!!! This i a monster novel, and I know the Video Night one is? thats my next one to get!! So I wanted to say thank you for your writing, you fill a need I have for a specific type of horror.

Some amazing monster horror I've read lately that I know you'd enjoy are:

Bird Box - Josh Malerman (Movie being made)
          The Shuddering - Ania Ahlborn
The Deep - Nick Cutter (THIS NEEDS TO BE A MOVIE ASAP!!!!!)
          Ararat - Christopher Golden
The Ritual - Adam Neville (Made into movie, on Netflix)
The Haunted Forest Tour - Jeff Strand (THIS book is in my top 10 ever..imagine Jurassic Park ...but with MONSTERS)
          Silence - Tim Lebbon
          Ancient Enemy - Mark Lukens

Maybe you haven't read one =) are there any book in this same vein you could suggest to myself?? Keep in mind I've read the basics & classics ...but if you have anything monster related??? I am ALWAYS trying to find books that remind me of THE THING. As I'm sure you're aware, I know it's a film..but THE VOID did a wonderful job at that!!! Would love any suggestions =) starved for monster reading haha.

I have most of her books! just read her "the devil crept in" its...good, its kind of different. BROTHER is seen as her best work from what I know, she has a new book out thought too.

Have you ever read "Ancient Enemy" by ,Mark Lukens?? I think you'd enjoy it..it's a very fast paced horror about a woman, a child, and 4-5 bank robbers that are stranded together at a log cabin in the woods during a really really bad blizzard, and there is some...THING that is outside, and it tells them they have to do/give it very weird specific things, or it'll in turn do very bad things to them...almost felt like Phantoms...if you've read/or watched that.

Also you should check out "THE DEEP" by Nick Cutter !! VERY GOOD horror! Imagine...The Abyss/The Thing/IT all wrapped up in a horror novel that takes place at the bottom of the ocean!! (Nick Cutters style is VERY graphic and disturbing, just a heads up)

I have to get THE SHUDDERING. Ahlborn's BROTHER was so great. And as far as monster horror you haven't covered. Hmmmm. Let me think.

The first movie that comes to mind is, Jason Goes To Hell. I think that movie gets treated unfairly.

I love Halloween 5 and genuinely think Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 is a work of art. I love Horror of Party Beach, the Night of the Demon from 1980 I think? (the one about bigfoot) Actually quite a few movies I really enjoy have been called "bad"

Ha! Agree with you on most counts. And I do agree about Zombie's H2 being a work of art (I think he was/is one of the last decently theatrically distributed horror auteurs), even if I don't "like" the movie all that much.

Hi Maggie, sadly I don't keep a lot of stock on hand. But if you shoot me an email with what book you're interested in (adamcesare at gmail), I can see if I have a copy kicking around. Other than that, if you pick one up on Amazon and let me know, I can mail you out a signed book plate to stick on the inside cover.

Oh Alien is one of the few franchises (not counting the spinoffs) that is entirely made up of virtuoso filmmakers. Agreed!

Howard the Duck was written be the same married couple (Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck) who wrote Messiah of Evil. The more you know!
