Were These Monsters Inspired by Fossils?

People have been discovering the traces and remains of prehistoric creatures for thousands of years. And they’ve also probably been telling stories about fantastic beasts since language became a thing. So, is it possible that the monsters that populate our myths and legends were influenced by the fossil record?

Big thanks to these paleoartists for allowing us to use their wonderful illustrations:

I read that Chinese dragons were also inspired by people seeing comets and other objects entering the atmosphere while burning.

I don't think dinosaur fossils inspired dragons as they're mainly depicted as carnivorous reptiles with backwards facing horns. The only dinosaur close to that is carnotaurus.

I'm taking in this channel's research but the catalogs of knowledge of dinosaurs that one can consume can't dictate if a (spelling errors) many species of pre historical manchinations had feathers or not. Organs that could have been functional, or fictional could have been lost to time. Acid burns .... Could they have thought in their limited descriptive languages of their loquacious languistic abilities equate acid with fire? We must take information as information not as fact. As well as the drive to further our understanding of natural history more so than what is classically known . In other words keep going!

Funny how most dinosaurs have only 1 or 2 fossil examples, but dragons and griffins didn't exist because we dont have a fossil of one. Humans couldn't have been around back when dinosaurs were around also even though there are numerous fossils and other artifacts that prove otherwise.
