“It weighs on her conscious” Ok help me out here. I’ve had this debate with a few people now. I’m like 99 percent sure ****spoiler alert*** that Dani’s sister and parents were killed by the cult. I’ve got probably 5 major pieces of evidence. Anyway, what did you think?

I watched this movie online a week ago. Refreshing to see another film in similar vein to a movie like The Wicker Man. The original, obviously, lol.

Stupid american movie . Americans have no culture of their own so they fantacise about others , never getting it right .

I think Midsommer is more refined than hereditary.

Can't wait to see it again. It's a lot to take in and it takes some time to marinate. I'm sure on my second viewing I'll appreciate it even more

It was no Hereditary but still not bad. Excited to see him try another genre

That part that gets me is how he didn't tie the beginning...I agree that was a great intro to a movie

For people who don't understand why the death of Dani's family was necessary, it's about cult indoctrination. When you're recruiting for new members (Pelle), you need to find candidates that are alone and in need of a place to belong. Dani was a prime candidate. This movie beautifully lays out how a person can be seduced into a cult lifestyle.

I like this movie but I think Hereditary is a better movie. I expected there to be resistance when big red flags happen they did not do enough to resist. It seemed like they let things happen. I Ike this but this movie freaked me out too much to make me want to see it again.

It was a gorgeous movie. Great gore scenes too. But I felt it was way too long. I also thought the same thing about Hereditary. I dont hate either movie but I definitely prefer Midsommar due to the cinematography. I was bored a lot in both movies. Mainly in Midsommar I didn't care about Christian. I loved Dani but couldn't care less about her getting back with somebody she clearly has no chemistry with. All in all it was pretty good. Oh yeah I could have done without all the nudity. Female AND male.

good review....didn't have a problem w/ the length but would have also been fine with some of the pre-sweden stuff cut sicne we didn't need as much exposition after to establish the nature of dani/christians relationship (and also because i think it was important to establish the commune's characteristics as much as it did for the ending to work).

got to agree that Annabelle 4 was so stupid with endless jump scares. The buildup here to the jump is fantastic and horrific. Relationship trouble is well developed in Dani and Christian. Great play in a horror film. The sex scene is hilarious. Thanks for sharing. Check my review if you get a chance.

Did not think it meandered at all. In fact I thought it was perfectly paced. He kept showing more and more and ratcheting up the tension until it crescendoed.

I like them equally. I thought midsommar was a perfectly paced insane beautifully shot ride. It won't be for everyone because of the insane gore and crazy sex scene. But it was great to me. 9 out of 10.

Midsommar was not just a movie for me, it was an experience. I've seen it two days ago, and I'm still thinking about it. It is both horrific and beautiful, and the fact that almost the entire movie takes place in broad daylight only amplifies the experience.

"Ride" is a perfect way to describe it. Throughout the film you have no idea where you're going and when the movie is over you're left feeling like you've just ended an actual journey. It's so immersive

The lead actress was VERY convincing. She was the most fleshed out character in the movie. I wonder what role Ari played in his relationship that influenced MidSommar. Was he the codependent, clingy Dani or the checkout Chris? This movie made me feel so many emotions: wonder, terror, disgust, curiosity, anxiety and deep, deep dread. Beautifully shot, the music is sensationally woven into the scenes...it's both a slow-burn nightmare and a vivid dream. This movie will stay with me for a long time. But I never wanna see it again. 🙈

there's another video on YT where ari talks about the director's cut of the film and in that vid he says there's a lot of him in dani (and also annie from hereditary), the good and the bad.

That’s understandable. I love Hereditary and I only saw it once. Haha. You have to be in that type of mood to watch it. Midsommar is the same way.

Saw it yesterday and can’t stop thinking about it. I felt like I was Dani on this journey and that last shot at the end whenshe starts smiling, I legit shed a tear and it cut to black. I was floored. Best film of 2019 for me hands down

The writer/director has some issues, to bring us these two creepy back-to-back films.
I saw both. Was shocked into seeing them to the end. Hated both of them.

I like your review! I wasn't a HUGE fan of Hereditary but I really liked this one. We saw it today and I feel like I was put through a paper shredder. I am so glad it's not jump scares like so many other horror movies. The imagery in this movie is SO haunting and disturbing. The bright white is very effective and makes it even more unsettling. The yellow triangle building...the bear.....nope.....

I really didn't like this movie unfortunately. I loved Hereditary so I'm a little disappointed. I just couldn't buy the reactions of the characters to what was going on. It also felt like it dragged quite a bit at times.
