I'd like to see a movie that mimics LSD but because its more of a mind altering drug then mushrooms where they tend to be more visual. Its kind of hard to replicate that experience. I've never had a bad trip except for one time I was in someone's house And their laundry machine was on and it felt like it was coming from inside my head and i had to run out of the house but i snapped out if it pretty quick.i had more anxiety with weed then psychedelics

They did a good job mimicking what it's like to be on mushrooms.

the horror elements missed the mark for me. I laughed most of the time. i think it tired too hard. Hereditary was perfect

In my opinion, Ari Aster is the personification of the quote: "good artists imitate; great artists Steal.." Meaning: all artists are redoing various versions of things which have already been done, but Ari takes these things and not only makes them his own, but, the Range of talent from which he pilfers from is so broad, it really turns it into its Own thing. I'd also like to mention one director which I couldn't quite put my finger on while watching, but, afterward I realized how simlilar to Blade Runner 2049 Midsommar felt. mainly in its use of poignant emotion engendered by a barrage of All your senses but also very much so in its pacing and ability to stay with a moment and, as one person stated, allow the scene to "breathe - " something we probably found intially in Kubrick, but is becoming a more popular film tactic by the year. So anyway, I really think Midsommar deserves a nod to director Denis Villeneuve. I would highly surprised if Aster didn't love 2049. And for me personally, I would place Midsommar as one of the absolute best I've seen in recent contemporary film, second only to BR 2049; if only due to the fact 2049 was just an overall Grander film and was just practically what I call a "perfect film."

I think it's so interesting how "sexually shocking" people thought Midsommar was... From all I remember is basically the one scene toward the end... There was really Not that much nudity in Midosommar..

Maybe it’s me but I guess I’m not an Ari Aster fan. I thought the hype around Hereditary wasn’t worthy and Midsommar was just another terrible movie that revolves around a cult, just like Hereditary.

this movie is extremely similar to suspiria. it would even be better to go into it with more knowledge about suspiria than hereditary. i did enjoy that it was different though.

I made a review of Midsommar as well, and also made a comparison segment vs The Wicker Man. I don't really think it's horror, or at least it shouldn't be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgYNT9iaMz0

I hated it. I was the worst movie of 2019 for me. 100% predictable and has to many "oh im going to shock you" moments. Not worth the price for a movie ticket. My advice skip it and watch it on your pc.

For some reason the way the film was made reminded me of Don't Look Now with Donald Sutherland. Especially with the surrealism and beautiful images and graphic erotic content.

i totally agree with this, there where a few points where i felt the character's emotions as if they where my own and i gotta admit everytime Dani cries and screams it really gets to me where i feel her pain ,to the point where she has to come to the decision at the very end i felt literally more connected to this character and awkwardly enough i smiled when they burned the bodies, kind of like a release and when it ended i was like whoaaa tf just happened-if that even makes sense, like you have a character you bond with throughout the movie and then every emotion they feel, you tend to feel, like the rage, the pain, the sadness etc,and usually im one to laugh abit during horror movies or feel the least scared but this one was quite the unsettling one, although hereditary really got to me more with the uneasy factor! i love both movies honestly, but theyre different in very unique ways for sure ^^ EDIT:also the symbolism is what i admired from both the films too! i recognized a few and was able to be like "wait i know this-" and then you notice how the set is placed and certain things that people might not catch the first time,i really adore that honestly

Hereditary had me messed up for a month. Midsommar was good, but definitely more disturbing then scary.

Aside from some gaps in the story I really enjoyed this film. It had some fantastic cinematography and for the most part very believable acting. I find myself enjoying movies more like The witch and hereditary.

Then the end came and it spoiler warning ⚠️ was a rip off of wicker man. Fav moment was how the firemen killed the sister , mom and dad rather bizarre.

Some of Danis behaviour made me wonder if she was involved with her parents and sisters deaths, her need for attention from her boyfriend, and doing more desperate things to get his attention as she knew he wanted to end the relationship. She covered her tracks by sending herself emails from her sisters computer and replying from her phone. Seemed like she had guilt, and her flashbacks were guilt trips. Just a thought.

And there are many disposable characters just to stretch the length of the film. by the way, " The Wailing" is a very good horror film.
