Just want to give you a little insight on the oil return holes in the bottom ringland. The holes in the oil ringlands are there to scrape oil from the walls of the cylinder yes but they are also drilled all the way through to the wrist pin and guide the oil that is scraped from the walls to help lubricate the wrist pin.

To be an engine builder is to be OCD as fuck.
Because one fuck up and the whole engine has to be pulled out again.

Honestly there's nothing better than watching things go wrong for a professional engine builder. I can learn more from watching a pro recover from issues putting in a piston than I would if everything popped in nice and smooth. You could do a whole video on just issues encountered while building an engine and you'd educate all of us.

Since you decided to use the digital torque tool for your comfort can you please put a motor to turn around the engine with just one or two buttons? It would be such a great upgrade for your shop, save some time and probably make you a little bit less fatigue, who knows?

So please explain to me the reason why degrees is used for final torque instead ft lbs.

With friction torque, there is more variables that can affect the final torque.

Parts like the rods, pistons and con rod bolts you can pretty much guarantee they will (not always) need to be upgraded when you’re talking about four-figure power levels.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't he say they upgraded the pistons? Remember in the beginning he was saying they can't bore out the cylinders because of the special coating, and they really like the O-ring design, so they worked with a company to design the piston around the O-rings. But idk if he put the upgraded piston/rods in this build or not.

Back in the day, when those ring styles first were seen, they were called "Head Land" or "Dykes" style. Ours were also tapered from top to bottom. Smaller diameter at the top. It was an enhanced oil scraper. Somewhere between 1957 - 1975 was a trend to smooth out the crosshatch pattern. Two reasons, ONE was to shorten the break in time and TWO was to reduce the metal particulates in the oil. To make a shortened break in period for a race engine, we would bore/hone to final size. Then do the preferred cross hatch pattern, then with a smooth stone hone, lightly hone the plateaus from the cross hatch. Removing the sharp edges as well as the microscopic loose, torn metal shards. Plus hand rubbing in a dry moly dust to every cylinder before assembly. (old time NASCAR stuff)
