Thanks for this vid, I had idly wondered about nfl europe as I watch the league try to ram the game down uninterested Londoner's throats every year. Forced unnatural growth is not always a good business model. The NFL seems to have learned little. Plus, Europe pretty much is over all things American. Maybe start an EAST European league?

Or, it's already a giant cow; just keep milking it.

The re-branding to from "Europe" to "Europa" was most likely, because at that point the league had turned into a german one. 5 german Teams + the one in the Netherlands.

Not a thing happened to NFL Europe. If they would move the league and disperse them throughout Europe, you would have "NFL Europe." I hate that England isn't large enough to support all 32 teams

Dude my friend and old teammate Bobby Singh was on that Superbowl team with Kurt Warner and also played in the World league with the Barcelona Dragons and won a ring with them also. Look him up. He also won a couple Grey Cup rings. I believe the only player to do so in all 3 leagues? Offensive lineman. From Richmond BC Canada. Also our friend and teammate Mark Uiyama who is now the Minnesota Vikings head conditioning coach. We came from a good gene pool and rare from one town in BC Canada. Greg Bearman. CFL.

A former player at my high school played in that league and actually led the league in receiving one year. Also this guy was on the 1998 Minnesota Vikings squad that went 15 and 1. Hes the only player in our school history to play in the NFL. They even retired his Jersey number.

I mean there’s clearly interest in the NFL overseas. Look at how many fans show up for the NFL London series. It’d be interesting if they could make more of it happen in Europe

Well, NFL Europe was not a disaster as you claim. It was a league that needed more patience and more development. Losing $30 million a year is not terrible at all for a financial powerhouse like the NFL. (And, once corrected for inflation, it is much better than what the AFL endured at its inception at the early 1960s.) There would have been a need for some realignment (moving teams) but NFL Europe could have easily developed into a viable league. And many football players now would have a better option than being street free agents waiting for a call from an NFL team. If the CFL can be viable, NFL Europe could be just as viable.

NFL needs a minor league system like baseball and hockey has some of these quarterbacks and office linemen come to the league and there not ready for the change of system like a pro style system that why so many quarterbacks and linemen don't work out because they're thrown in and they haven't had chance learn the system or how to play it and one big problem with the NFL is that they burn bridges when they leave town

Hence why the attempts at a developmental league failed and always will fail.

He was a 3rd round draft pick by the Saints (Ditka) era. After 3 seasons there he went to NFL Europe where he won a championship (2000 season) with the Rhein Fire. He eventually landed back in the NFL with Washington but washed out shortly after.

With the amount of globalisation today, I actually think a European Division in NFL might work.

But franchises would have to be from major student- or expat cities to work.
The franchises would probably be most successful in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Brussels, Paris, Barcelona (or Madrid)

I know personally at least three European guys that learned how NFL football works from NFL Europe. Fan exposure and player development is worth the cost. American Football is a compelling sport with lots of situational plays and complicated rules. It takes years of exposure to develop appreciation. 500 million people live in Europe. A small, six to ten team d League should be able to make a go of it. Every once in a while, a Kurt Warner level player will come out and improve the NFL.
