I got a good transaxle from a salvage yard for my '97 Olds Cutlass. On these the automatic transmission itself is usually good but they have a problem with the ring and pinion (helical differential gears). The lubrication tube from the pump to the gears is pulled out of the gear housing by a "rubber" tube that connects the two steel pipes. It shrinks.
On the "new" tranny I put a new "rubber" tube in and squeezed the ends in as much as I could do that the tube pushes outward, holding the steel tubes in place.
This transaxle is used in every variant of that car.

I never buy a used trani or motor unless it's still sitting in the vehicle. Of course they may have rolled back the odometer, but you can still get a better idea of it's condition than looking at one sitting on a shelf.

                China tends to make junk.
Its not that they're incapable of making things quality, and in some cases they do.
But the business climate in China is pretty deep in a "race to the bottom" lowest-bidder mentality.
Also Chinese consumers tend not to seek quality, and don't usually bother with much preventative maintenance.

I have been to dozens of salvage yards inthe Tampa Bay area and have never seen an already pulled tansmission with over 50k miles on it. Never. Example: Often the yard will list a specific tranny with 140k miles on it for $600 and another of the same specifics with only 50k miles on it for $950. Which one would you choose? Dont worry. There is only one tranny and it has 162k miles on it. That's the one you get, no matter what you choose. Sad but true.

Well I think I got a fair deal on my 2019 rav4 at the dealership. Although they tried to get 10,000$ more out of me than I would give them. New cars have an odometer of very very low. So I know I’m the only owner and I know what needs to be done etc. I never go to the dealership for fixes, like u said.

I bought a Hyundai love it so far. I heard their engines are now just as good if not better than Toyotas. I don't know if that's true but so far it's a great car. I don't know how honest they are but, on their website; they say their hybrid battery's have a lifetime warranty. I don't know how truthful that is but you may want to do a video on it.

A buddy of mine wrecked his old chevy in the Arizona desert. He remembers going through the windshield and he was about to reach for his sunglasses that were on the dash that were following through the air. Before he had a chance to grab them, he hit butt first in the sand and his pants exploded. They took him to the hospital where they found he had a few broken bones but nothing critical. When he went to the toilet the next day they heard him scream throughout the hospital when he pooped out a cylinder of sand. Anyway...he had the truck towed home in the hopes that he could salvage something. The shock was so severe that the cam gear broke off the cam and went through the timing cover. Anything cast iron was split open and the ball joints were ripped out of their sockets. The only thing he salvaged was his keys and the nut off the air cleaner.

It never used oil before but for years now it does.
Mechanics said synthetic oil is to thin or slippery for an older vehicle and cleaned all the deposits out-thus- the increased oil consumption. And, it will stop using oil after switching back to regular oil. It hasn’t.
Car also seems to be unable to find the right gear once in a while between second and drive. It will upshift and downshift too often under acceleration.
Also in winter it doesn’t want to take off immediately when cold.

I was told synthetic floats junk better than dinosaur oil, so change the oil soon if going Dino to Synthetic. Mainly to get rid of crud being floated around. It didn't create it, it just moved it from the bottom of the oil pan.

Try a different brand of the correct weight of dino oil.

I have a Subaru BRZ 2013 manual transmission and it makes a ballbearing noise when I run on 2nd, 4th and 6th gear over 3500 rpm. Years ago the throw out bearing failed and damaged both the cliche the diaphragm. I got it replaced but I still have that noise. What can be the problem?
