I see so many guys who carry their families around in their private planes. They are flying single pilot. I always ask them if they are sure that if something happened to them, if their loved ones could get the plane safely on the ground. They tell me to mind my own business in most cases. I am a paramedic. I have performed CPR on very highly trained athletes. These guys are not immortal. I think it is about pride. To watch your spouse or child embarrass the PIC/owner by outperforming them on the controls. Sort of like taking away your manhood. It is not macho to know your family cannot land the plane if the PIC passed out. So selfish. Why do airlines have two pilots. In case something happened to one of them, the other could safely control and land the plane.

damn all the people on board must've been pretty pissed off to be returned to the airport of origin just for the sake of making a video!

What about dumping the fuel? I have no idea about flying but It seems something they have to do to make the aircraft light enough for landing. Especially turning back to Stansted from the English Channel.

First of all the headset should automatically connect to the tower without waisting time fiddling with buttons, then the tower should know where I am and where to land me by giving me instruction without losing valuable time.

Hey captain, hold my beer I got this. Also, just learned that the plane can land on auto pilot.....I thought that take off and landings are done and controlled by pilots? I guess not.

Pro Tip: when you're in a static environment with a single camera angle that does not change, DISABLE Auto Focus! PRESET the focal length to where you want it BEFORE you start recording, and then the camera won't lose its mind (like it frequently IS in THIS video) trying to choose between the foreground, the item you are shooting, and the background.

Alternatively (and preferably), have someone else operate the camera, so _they_ can keep track of this frustrating detail while you are doing your thing in front of the camera.

I would have made so many mistakes. First thing I would have done is take the Yoke and attempt to throttle down a little manually from what I HOPE is the throttle in the cockpit centre (trying to buy more time in the Air and fly a circle until I can alert people/get help). Then the Autopilot disengage alarm would come on and I would shit my pants while having to do everything manually.. LOL. Its pretty cool knowing this can all be done via autopilot and trim and you can relax for the most part if you can establish contact and identify the instruments.

Found this absolutely fascinating. I always wanted to be a pilot but after taking a few lessons in my teens I realised I probably did not have what it takes to make a success of it and become an airline pilot. Now I'm older and wiser and more financially able, I am seriously thinking of completing my PPL with a view of flying for a hobby.

So instead of a huge red button called "emergency communication" there is number of steps which are IMPOSSIBLE to carry out for a non-pilot under extreme stress in life and death situation. Namely:
                                                                        1) figuring out how to setup radio frequency and what frequency to use

But I guess the plane will be fine in battery mode so not really required

She seemed a bit older and somewhat taller than the rest of the cabin staff on this Thai Airways flight. More beautiful too, if that was possible. On the climb out of Sydney she came to assist a portly passenger just across the aisle from him. She turned to face down towards the tail and, as she listened to some trivial request, caught his eye with a little smile which said, "welcome to my world." Her nametag said Tara. She was stunning, with perfect skin and almond eyes the color of honey. Her skirt was modest, but he could see firm, tanned legs with perfect ankles and no stockings. He caught the faint exotic breath of her perfume as she swept past to attend to the passenger. Now, the danger and excitement had passed and they were safely back at Sydneys Kingsford Smith airport. He had answered the calm call for anyone with flightdeck experience to press the Call button. His was the only one which lit. Now as he squeezed down the narrow passageway from the cockpit, Tara suddenly stood before him and threw her arms around him. No words were spoken - she just held on hard for a moment. He thought he saw tears in her eyes as he turned from her embrace. It was then that she placed something in the top pocket of his Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirt. At the bottom of the stairway, having passed a relief crew and emergency responders, he removed it and found it was a pair of brief, white lace panties. Without thinking, he held them to his nose and remembered anew the exotic fragrance of her. But the was something indefinable, deeper and more erotic. He was to experience in full that scent later that night....

I feel like there should be a single, clearly labeled button or switch somewhere that changes the radio to the emergency channel. Not so much for a situation like this, but i feel like going through all those steps to change the radio frequency in a crazy emergency involving a lot of turbulence would be pretty difficult. Then again I suppose pilots probably train for such scenarios.
