Something similar happened in Olympic rowing pairs. The British team was doing crap and then magically a part of the boat broke. Think it was one of the seats. So it had to be restarted and the British team did better, they may have won.

You say it's cheating but it's in the rules and it's all legal. If it was an American it would be a genius move.

In literally any other Olympic event that involves sprints and races, there aware no do-overs. You fall/ crash, YOURE DONE SON.

It's a dumb rule that unscrupulous unsportsmanlike "athletes" can take advantage of. It's not cheating, but it's probably worse.

In a race or something you can normally tell if you started off poorly. And there's nothing specifying "intentional mishaps" so he's all good

As a kid I found out that the most reliable way to win in Nascar for ps2 was to use both controllers, and park two cars at the end of the longest straight. You could limp your way back to the pit and get your car fixed up indefinitely, but the cpu's would always try to push through with broken cars, and end up wrecking them beyond repair. So you would just set up, repair, cause a massive crash, repeat until you were the only driver left, then drive the required number of laps.

2:22 kinda can. If you think about it (and I mean that respectfully), if you stand while riding, how close to the ground is your foot on the bottom of the pedal cycle? About 4 inches.

I'm old (in sports and dog years) so injuries now mean something to, when I got into mountain biking (recreationally), I was surprised to learn that a key skill to have in MTBing is being able to see a crash coming and either bail or roll with the crash, limiting the damage to yourself. With practice, you can crash 'properly'. Its kind of like learning how to roll with a are still going to get tagged, you likely won't look cool and it will hurt....but it saves you from taking excessive damage. Stuntmen and paratroopers all can land in a type of roll to limit injury....its like that, but your foot is inches from the ground, so you can plant it. With clips, you twist your foot and they pop out.

Youd have to practice to be able to sell it though.

It totaly is cheating the rules says "in the event of a mishap" he admited to doing it on purpose therefore making it not a mishap. The olympic commitee should take his medal melt it and then pour the liquid gold into a mold for a tacky engagement ring right in front of him

Rules have a purpose, so if you take advantage of a loophole allowing you to defeat it's purpose, it's definitely cheating. Yeah, the rule is pretty dumb, but you still need to show some sportsmanship.

Sooooo, I was the U.S. starter for team sprint so I can shed some light on this. In this even there is a machine that holds the bike and releases when the countdown hits zero, if you try to leave to early it will not let you go, this could cost you up to 2 seconds (for this role you are shooting for a 17.0 second time, 2 seconds is huge). Basically if you don't the vest start, you just fall over and get a restart. The part not mentioned in the video is that if there is a restart and something else happens, the team just gets dq'd regardless of who caused the restart.

One time we had a bad set up with the gate and because the countdown had started we weren't gonna get a fair chance, we intentionally false started (someone not in the machine crossed the start line early) so that we would get a fair chance at the race.
