Dorian's Destruction of Treasure Cay, Abaco Bahamas

  • Scott did a quick recon mission with a friend who has a home there as well today and the following is a rough cut of what we put together for the people with families and homes over there. We hope it will be of assistance. If you are wanting to donate to the Go Fund Me we created to aid in the rebuilding of our little slice of paradise, you can do so here:

Rebuilding? Well rebuilding is needed but, to be realistic, everybody needs to re-think these islands' close relationship with hurricanes. Obviously this is not a place for "regular" suburban development. Every year there will be the looming menace of a hurricane and a hit relatively every so often. So rethinking must be in the form of what kind of buildings are erected; study Dorian's flooding to know where and how to build. Building for permanent resident? Or worse, investing on a residence there? That's a no-no.

These islands need to be transformed into all-tourist destinations with sturdy structures and built with ability of fast reconstruction in mind in case of a hurricane. These low-lying small islands belong to sea and the elements. What happened with Dorian is bound to happen sooner than later again and again.

What is your opinion about Florida, Carolinas, Loisiana, Puerto rico, St.Marteen and all the other places where also have hurricanes? Do you think after Katrina everybody should leave Louisiana? You might have some kind of money to think like that as many in that area are poor, poor people, some very hard working people who do not deserve this and are doing their best to keep it alive and move on. You need to go there and talk to some of the old families to see where they came from and how they have being surviving working hard. I agree some don't but most do.

its tragic that this area has been destroyed but lets be honest, they didnt know the island that is almost at sea level would be flooded, with a storm of this magnitude? i am not a beach person so i dont understand the fascination with the bahamas while most of florida is built of islands that were attached by a bridge. i am on an island everyday that is ten times more beautiful than anything in the bahamas and i still dont think boca, delray, deerfield, fort lauderdale, hollywood, aventura, or miami is that special; sand , beach, big houses, bars , restaurants etc its all the same.

Maybe 40,000 dead between these 2 islands. Many washed out to sea, so will never be found. And undocumented people, so no names recorded.

What surprises me is that this devastation hasn't happened sooner, considering that the islands are in the path of the yearly Atlantic hurricanes. My condolences to those affected.

Do you know how the Topsider pedestal homes (a small resort on Treasure Cay) did in the hurricane? They were marketed as being hurricane proof. If they survived, I believe they could be an excellent choice for rebuilding Treasure Cay since they are prefabricated and easily erected. Also elevated above a tidal surge.

If you take a look at the Bahamas and imagine 100's of these storms pounding a region week after week, you now know what the Middle East has been subject to with Bush Sr and his Son from 1991 to 2010. Utter chaos and destruction on a scale that is beyond belief. Millions of lives lost and disrupted ,while trillions in profits were generated.

Bahamas are 30 inhabited Islands and 2 were totally clobbered as the storm came and paused over Abacco, then moved to and paused over Freeport.

Is it a random coincidence China had built massive ports on those 2 Islands, only?

I made the largest donation I have ever made, times 10, to Catholic Charities in Florida expressly for Dorian victims.

Thank you for the video. My wife and I had met a gentleman by the name of Mickey Hayes when we stayed next door to his home called Alta Vista. It was in a couple hundred yards from the point and most of his place and Royal Poinciana looked intact but it was from a distance. There was also a family from Rockledge Florida that had a second home that we had met. Their place didn't look to well. Puts a knot in my stomach to thank that such a beautiful place and such great people have gone through this.

Anyone needing help rebuilding after a disaster (or for other needs) can create their C'8 profile and needs post(s) here (work in progress) and those wanting to help can create their C'8 Aid Offer posts for direct donations as well.

What #AidCoordinationPlatform do you use and is it free, available to all, 100% transparent and purely altruistic? Does it fully maximize ‘’The Four Cs of Disaster Response: Communication, Cooperation, Coordination and Collaboration.

Introducing C'8 - Coordinate, a purely altruistic, free and available to all international disaster (and other) aid coordination platform webapp that unites all aid givers with all disaster victims and communities in need as well as with aid materials suppliers and the rest of the world that might be moved to give aid in some way from a distance.

Where Facebook is social, LinkedIn is business, etc, C’8 is one purely altruistic unified platform for aid coordination.

With C'8 you could help any person to create their C'8 profile and post(s) of their needs and you could then endorse their post as well as someone with personal knowledge of this person's need for example.

I/we invite you to begin to use C'8 to help those at the top of your list of people you'd like to see receive aid/more aid.

No structural damages but the pressure was so high some glass windows exploded under the shutters. yes even a concrete super structure as ours got water damage but we are a little higher ground. The cement constructions who were not filled felt! Some the roofs were not tied together and they are gone.

Especially to the poor people who cannot afford to rebuild and to those who lost loved ones if that was what happened. I am homeless. I don’t have a second home. Yet, I feel fortunate I did not have to go thru this. I live on the mainland of the U SA,. I have a college education and I worked for 38 years, but even though I cannot afford a home today I am lucky I did not have to endure what the people in the Bahamas had to. God bless them!
