Bores me when “modern people” call Men that died on a battlefield “people”

It was MEN that fought and died on battlefields........ not people!

Debating about whether or not an Englishman was an archer, when it is still the law that every English man be an archer.

I have recently traced my family back with DNA and family tree work and Sir Lionel Leo 6th Baron of de Welles fought on the Lancastrian side and was killed at Towton, I wonder if he was in the pit?

Wouldn't swinging a heavy sword also have the effect of increasing bone density? They should have done a body scan of a swordsman today, too, then compared them. I wonder what the Englishmen of that day would say if they could see England today- would they recognize it?

Scotland and England didn't union till 1707 so how could it be Britain's most bloody battle ?
If your going to make statements can they at least be accurate ?

Britain consists of England and Wales. Great Britain consists of Britain and Scotland and the United Kingdom was the political and economic union of Great Britain.

Lady speaking at 2.24 - who in their right mind has a Romantic view of medieval warfare? It consisted of hacking or stabbing your Foe to death.

absolutely captivating. Chivalry must have been in the eyes of the non-combatant classes. They tried to make seem civilized what is all but that in reality. The horror is real.

Sir Dan Dandy I live a mile down the road from towton and regularly walk the dog on the battlefield. I think I’m right in saying that the remains are in box’s in York university due to them still being studied as battle graves from this period are scarce.

The modern romantic version of chivalry did not really exist in medieval warfare. The reason men of rank & title were spared was because they were worth money in the form of ransom, not for any noble purpose. And the indiscriminate nature of killing brought on by the use of massed archers and later, firearms, destroyed even this concept once and for all.

I am not being funny but the English were well known for having WELSH PEOPLE AS ARCHERS, I'm not saying they were Welsh in this battle, but my point is when they were saying about English archers being so amazing, it tells u something that, England a country supposed to be so good at archery, so if u r all so good at something then why do u have to take people who u have colonised:-Welsh people, u made them give up their archers to u because THEY WERE the ones who were MOST renowned for their archery,in the whole English army NOT THE ENGLISH, but that's just a typical thing that they try to do innit 🤔😎💯

It seems wasteful to spend so much time trying to prove these guys were archers. I really dont think anyone is debating that there were many archers on both sides at Towton. ...seems an odd choice.

I think the 30 or so skeletons were the last men standing on the losing side and were possibly hired to aid in the fighting. I think they were either captured or held out until the bitter end, completely surrounded, and were either tied up and executed violently or they were encircled and cut down.

OK, so now we know where 37 of those killed in this battle ended up; where are the other 27,963 bodies?? I don't know. I really can't help but wonder how much history has inflated the number actually killed there. If there were nearly 30k other bodies there, you would expect that you couldn't dig anywhere without coming upon hundreds of bones in every shovel full.

There is a historical error with one of the actors at 36:34. Being so obese in those days would mean that one would retain unimaginable wealth; a lowly footsoldier would be unable to procure the wealth or resources to reach this state. Also, the person at 36:41 looks like a martyr.

I would agree, but actually, black powder handgonnes/hand cannon and artillery were already in use during the 15th Century (and in the War of the Roses itself), just very primitive and a hassle to reload. It was optimal to reload a handgonne with a crew of two or three persons and would take "too long," which explains why longbows and crossbows remained supreme until the invention of the Arquebus. Serpentine cannon, bombards and mortars were also utilized but were costly to produce.

They repeat it over and over almost as if they have some weird agenda or resentment. These timeline documentaries can be really odd sometimes and on multiple occasions from what I have watched; utterly misinformed on a variety of topics.

That was the battle of Watling Street during the revolt of Boudicca against the romans. both battles has one thing in common: the retret of the losing army was nearly blocked, so the fleeing soldiers was massacred in large numbers - at Watling Street, there were women and children with many bullock carts, watching the battle and become a living blockade for their own men. according to the romans, they killed more than 70.000 celts on this day. they outnumbered the romans (ca. 13.000 men) 4, perhaps 5 to 1 in number of combattants, plus the mass of women and children, so this casualties are absolutely possible.
