Today, our closest evolutionary relatives, the apes, live only in small pockets of Africa and Asia. But back in the Miocene epoch, apes occupied all of Europe. Why aren’t there wild apes in Europe today?

All the animal's alive today are technically 500m million years worth of evolution and are the most successful of the species they represent and gene pool which is why their alive today. It's sad to think humans will decide to intervene with nature by executing an entire species but did theh know any different? I doubt it, they most likely did it out if fear.

Many prehistoric animals living in and around the Northern Hemisphere existed because those areas were once tropical but gradually turns cool allowing them to evolve wools and thick hairs, just like us humans, the Northerners are bigger and hairier while the tropical Java man were small, apes probably disappeared from Europe because of lesser trees and migrates south into the tropics.

It has been suggested since 1960s that humans with our hairless skin and blubber was descended from an ape that was making an aquatic transition like the ancestor of whales. Reference: Ted Talks channel.
