Fixing The Combine... Again

  • The ground was frosty so we were not able to start combining corn right away. This was not an issue at all due to the fact we had some work on the 1988 Freightliner's trailer. After running around to gather materials, we got the semi wrapped up and then Pete Youngblut (AgLeader guy) showed up to put new height control sensors on the corn head. Murphy's Law was in full effect and everything was giving us issues.

Bill Cran, the AgLeader Tech Specialist showed up to view how things were going. We also flew his drone around. Lets just say Dad is not an expert!

We finally got the combine fixed, calibrated, running, and then picked for a few hours.

    Thank you for watching!

I’m all caught up! YouTube recommended your house cleaning up video maybe a month ago, and I ended up watching every single one of your videos. I enjoy them so much. I think because everyone in your family likes and respects each other (even when you tease each other it’s not mean teasing), and your parents are proud of all their kids, plus you so obviously love farming. It’s interesting too. I’m learning a lot. I grew up in Ohio farming country —we didn’t farm (parents were teachers) but the field behind us alternated soybeans, sugar beets, and corn. Now I’m in the suburbs of Albany NY. Nothing to do with farming. Still, I look forward to watching your videos at the end of a stressful day. Thanks so much for making and posting them!

At 2000 bushels per hour that's a tractor trailer load every half an hour. Not bad.

Hey so I have random questions - 1 do you ever accidentally end up combine-ing an animal - I imagine that plug-up would be.... messy.... 2. Why does it matter if the combine and your farm equipment are dirty? You guys spend a lot of time power washing and I'm sure there is a reason beyond looks that I'm not getting because farmers are busy people but I am a city girl so I don't know why you would care if it is clean or not so what would happen if you just let the outside of the equipment get dirty - like I understand cleaning around the implements and the tires but the rest I don't get.

Cole The Cornstar thank you!!! I knew there was a reason - so I started watching these videos because I sell equipment that’s used to make the herbicides and other things you might spray on your field and when I’m learning they always refer to the farmer (end user) and I realized I had no idea about any of the work that all the product I help make does

Lauren Gabrielle animals can run into the head, but it is very rare. Yes, it's messy.

As for cleaning the equipment if you don't keep up on it they get super dirty. People treat stuff better when it looks nice. It's also a lot easier to work on stuff when it is clean.

Debris can also be a fire hazard.

My Dad wanted everything ready for next year before anything was parked at the end of the season every piece of equipment had its own clip board. I thought that was normal until I started working with other people. You have a heated shop why is it not completely ready before harvest. Winter is for selling crops and equipment maintenance.
