Binging with Babish: Breakfast from The Phantom Thread

- Taking Daniel Day-Lewis' breakfast order is a double-edged sword: get it right, and you fall in love with an abusive fashion designer whom you feel the need to poison to stay in love with. Get it wrong, and you'll probably never work in this town again. Thread the needle this week as we try and recreate breakfast for the hungry boy.
The clotted cream, butter, and jam in this episode all came out sensational - the welsh rarebit and scones, however, could use some work. Go check out the YouTuber that inspired this week's episode here for some solid recipes!

Who the fuck disliked the vid?
It's not rabbit, it's Rare-bit. Basically cheese on toast
I have always wanted to learn how to make this the second I herd of this thank you for making that possibly
im sorry but, your biscuits are the American version of our scones. Cannot have that sort of disrespect
AAAAAA NOOOOO YOU USED THE WRONG BACONNNNN
Cartman's butter poptart from South Park S4 E15 Fat Camp!!!!
Would be amazing. Thanks!
Phantom Thread is SUCH a good film.
Ha, Bourbon County as the "stout beer"... that must have been interesting...Lots of extra tannins and ethanol in a bourbon barrel aged stout compared to a normal welsh rarebit... Really liked the video otherwise, but interesting choice on the beer...
Pretty sure it's the American version of scones rather than the British version of biscuits given that the Brits invented it first.
refer to a limited edition hand labeled bottle of 2017 goose island bourbon county as a "stout" while true is a bit of a gross understatement my dear boy.
Babish needs a kettle.
Everything about this seems exhausting. Screw it I'm going to Denny's
What do you do with the excess liquid from the clotted cream? Is it just waste?
It is like the excess liquid from the butter, just use it to make the scones.
what was the tea called?
Babish: These are the British version of our Biscuits
Me, A Brit: *Spits out tea* Scones came first dammit!!
@Lightning Mcseed ha ha that's a good one I'll give you that one mate mr. Colour ha ha ha
Well at least we don't put a u in every word, "mr. colour"
I rewatch the intro to this every once in a while cuz his voice as he orders food is incredibly soothing. Just me? Cool.
Mum always said, never cut a scone!
🗑️
Not to sound to American but this is why I'm fat. All that work for some food. Wish I could do it without gong crazy.
this looks so delicious it almost makes me forget how much I hate this movie
Rarebit not rabbit
It’s pronounced rare-bit I believe
i can never tell if you're joking or not when you say creem freesh
"Hilariously unhealthy" 💀💀
Devonshire??? wow
Clotted Cream: Addictive, Hilarious Unhealthy. Got it babs!
saucepn
I promise I'm not correcting you but I get a slight aneurysm every time you say "sauce pan" (sauce-pen) [cringe]?!?! Still a fan, had to share.
Christopher Fortney I’m pretty sure it’s ironic
Babish: people who buy butter are suckers.
this dude cooking with bourbon county from goose island dammmm
Im a little sad this didn't make it into the recipe book. I spent a good minute trying to find it again lol
I can watch these for hours a day
Try adding dry fruit to your scones, its even better
Is the guy from the Phantom Thread the same as that Rick and Morty Episode? The one where they talk about Jerry's Penis? "It's funny to say that they are big, it's funny to say they are small." Lol
It's sauce-PAN not sauce-PIN!
Lapsang tea smells like feet. That's more than I need to know to know that I don't need that in my life.
For context, I used to work in a fancy café where we had many manners of tea. I smelled the Lapsang once and asked myself, "Ew! Why? Who would ever order that?"
The answer? Nobody! In my three years at that café, not a single person ordered Lapsang tea.
John Bainbridge it's smoky, that's why people like it. it's interesting
There's nothing better than clotted cream, scones and jam. The trick is to apply the jam first followed by the clotted cream. Wash it down with a cup of tea. Defo my death row final meal hands down.
DID YOU SAY BRITISH VERSION OF BISCUITS?
BISCUITS ARE THE AMERICAN VERSION OF SCONES!!!!!!!!
ok now do the poisonous mushroom soup
for some reason I can't imagine butter (or clotted cream) plus jam tasting that great, i'd either have one or the other, maybe if they toasted it with butter.
Dont knock it till you try it!
If you've never had jam and cream on a scone (or biscuit I guess) then PLEASE try it. It's an absolutely phenomenal combination
Bacons wrong. Should be back bacon and smoked. I don't know what you think constitutes a sausage either, but those anemic looking things ain't it. Also, I'm not just being a douche, but, that rarebit was pretty horrific. 👍
I’m just saying you used the wrong kind of bacon British bacon is wider and doesn’t go very crispy and I think it’s like 10x better than American bacon
Who's going to tell him you pronounce it as "rare-bit"?
That cream and scones looked amazing
To one up this one add sultanas to the scones. So so good.
He said worcestshire correctly!!!
I have made clotted cream with ultra pasteurized cream (only kind of cream I could find at our grocery store) and it turned out fine. Absolutely delicious.
I was very confused until the end of the video that he never started cooking a rabbit
Welsh Rare-Bit. :D Never fails to amuse me how many people get that wrong.
