I'm not mad, just a little bit sad, and disappointed that our friends didn't let me know that you wanted something ultra-high performance for you editing and storage needs! We're going to build one and see how it stacks up against a Jellyfish!. Find out how we did this with Patrick Kennedy from servethehome.com/

So many people in the comments attacking MKBHD and iJustine. Like what are you even doing with yourself?

1-3 over time is not the same as 2-4 disk dislikes at once. Linus is using very very calculated deceiving words.

@Linus Tech Tips agreed. the company i work for has 3000 employees and uses pure storage... that is what works best for us at this point in time. Could we build out our own arrays.. yep, will we? nope.

You know, in reference to the switch issue, why don't you just bolt a dual port 10gbps + 16 port 1gbps switch to the thing and call it a day, or build an mini server rack, that is litterally like 3u tall, that holds the switch, the storage server, and maybe even a frigin router and cell tower based network solution in it aswell. Gives you loads of ports for expandability to many team members, lets you have internet access(although not very fast yet, 5g might change that a bit when it starts to roll out more) all while being a hell of a lot more affordable and not requiring proprietary things to use it.

That's not at all how the car market works you can have cheap reliable cars and there is a market for it and you have your expensive cars that spend half of their time in maintenance to prevent failures. So your comparison is really bad, people don't buy tuners because they want to at first it's because it's what they can afford at the time and it's something that can grow with their hobby.
I think your statement fits better for race cars and not daily drivers. But even amongst them there is the low budget gems (figuratively speaking), everyone knows about

Alright I have an idea to prevent vibrations from killing drives.

Just slap some of these on a cart and bam your drives are safe

in the real world connecting pc directly to the server is just creating technical debt, block scalability
but I guess that in the youtube world, it's an opportunity to create content

I feel that there should still be write cache to aid in write efficiency. Incoming write requests need to be stored and acknowledged before more can be sent on the wire from the host. If an incoming write is saved in NVRAM and acknowledged, the host can send more data until a full-sized write is prepared for flushing to the drive. Additionally, no mention of deduplication, compression, or compaction. Filling NVRAM with a stripe of random, compacted data allows for a quick, sequential write when it’s full, and is more efficient. Garbage collection and re-writes to collect unused portions of blocks, etc. more info and testing would be needed to truly say who’s storage solution is more effective.

That's basically how a lot of the old Avid servers used to work. Hell, the ISIS 7000 had its own built in switch fabric.

It's wild that they've made it this far. I legit thought those were sponsorships when I saw them in my feed. HOW. ON. EARTH. were they not? Who would spend that much money on such a thing without contacting industry connections, or putting something together with.. you know.. a sponsor...?

I'm absolutely jealous, but more than that, I just cannot stand how much money people throw away when there are such better options out there.
